Me, 1984
Amanda Dicken was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1980 and grew up surrounded by the artistic talents of her parents. Early on, she knew she wanted to pursue art full-time, and spent her college years at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida, where she attained her Bachelor's of Art degree in 2002 and realized she had a knack for figure drawing. During that time she studied abroad in the summer of 2000, studying art with her professors and peers in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and France. The following summer was spent at the New York Art Academy, where she took an intensive training course in figurative art.
She spent ten years living in the Raleigh, North Carolina area, working retail full-time and teaching painting and drawing while experimenting in many different mediums, including pastels, oil, and acrylic painting. She finally found a way to combine her love of drawing on paper and painting by using watercolor and Micron pens together, and has continued using these mediums for her ever-evolving portraits and frames. After living in Virginia for several years after leaving Raleigh, she and her boyfriend currently reside just outside Nashville, Tennessee, where she's gearing up for a large solo show at the Shenandoah Valley Art Center in Waynesboro, Virginia, in August 2019.
